Mindfulness For Busy People

short course in 5 Units

Learning to be mindful doesn't have to mean sitting on a mat for 30 minutes -

now you can incorporate it into your busy day with activities and tasks you're already doing. Like...

Unit 1:

Hand Washing &

Brushing Teeth

Your Image

Kick start being mindful in your daily life with these tasks you perform a few times each day. Water, toothpaste and soap provides lots of sensations we can notice, and even enjoy!

Unit 2:

Showering &

Bathing

Your Image

Get out of your head and into your body! When we actually notice and appreciate the sensations of cleaning ourselves, we employ our senses in a different way and it can be sublime.

Unit 3:

Cooking &

Eating

Your Image

Use your time wisely. We need to get these things done, so we might as well enjoy them with all our senses. Mindful cooking and eating can be a game changer for our health too.

Unit 4:

Laundry In &

Laundry Out

Your Image

You might not be able to change the volume of your washing, but you can turn your chores into a mindfulness practice, and start to notice your thoughts and senses involved. Just don’t smell the dirty washing!

Unit 5:

Walking &

Stretching

Your Image

You won’t believe how much you can feel what’s going on INSIDE your body just from very gentle movement. Learning to notice the different sensations happening inside can help us to de-stress throughout the day.

Why I created Mindfulness For Busy People...

In 2015, I was a single Mum working 12 hour days and was desperately unhappy in my job. I wish I had the skills then, that I have now! How to calm myself, to understand my mind, to deal with things and not bury them, and to stand up for myself. I was heading for a work-related nervous breakdown, or unemployment.

Nervous breakdown or unemployment?

I chose the latter - I quit my job - but before I did, I pumped the last of my savings into training as an NLP practitioner (Neuro Linguistic Programming - kind of brains, language and behaviour patterns) to help others. I worked part time too, and somehow got by, while immersing myself in learning about people, psychology, habits and change. I learned more about myself in that year than the previous 40! The biggest learning for me is being aware of my inner life – thoughts, feelings, emotions - that drive behaviour.

Where did Mindfulness come in?

In my quest for knowledge, I completed training in BWRT (more brain stuff) and OldPain2Go (ask me about this - it's fascinating) and I came across an online MBSR course – Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction – that I could do in my own time (by this time I had a ten year old and a newborn). The practices I learned during this course led me to realise THIS was what I wanted to do, and THIS was what I wanted to teach people. So...

Getting qualified to teach you...

I was attracted to the Integrated Mindfulness & Compassion course from MindfulnessUK because it included studying neuroscience (I like brains!), and last year I completed Compassionate Mindful Resilience, which I teach to those who care for others.

I have seen so many people have life-changing transformations through mindfulness, and as I try to encourage more people, I hear the same thing over and over: “I’m too busy to meditate”. So after thinking how I could help these people (i.e. you!) to start getting in touch with their inner world and be more mindful, I created a series of meditations to be squeezed into daily life. Noticing what is going on in our bodies and minds is a massive first step to healing... so here it is, the course you can do without changing a thing to your day or committing to long practices!

One week to complete...

but yours to keep

Two meditations of between 3 to 10 minutes make up each Unit. Simply listen to the audio (no need to watch) WHILE going about your day. At the end of the Unit there is a very short video with one BIG benefit of practising Mindfulness. Unit 3's (thumbnail featured here) is just 1m...we know you're busy! The audio files will be downloadable for you to keep.

Mindfulness helps you focus on what IS going on

A Harvard study found that 47% of our waking hours are spent thinking about what ISN'T going on in the present moment! Past and future thinking can be so stressful to our minds and bodies. Mindfulness keeps us focused on the present moment and helps us to notice and stop this mind wandering.

Suitable for Everyone

The benefits of Mindfulness are so all-reaching. Although its roots are in Buddhism, it is a non-secular (non-religious) practice. Whatever your age, gender, culture, ethnicity, habits, job, situation, you can do this course*.

* If you have a serious mental health problem, severe depression or anxiety, suicidal thoughts and/or are recovering from trauma, it is advisable to receive one-on-one help from an experienced professional.

Any Questions?

How long will the short course take?

I would recommend to do it over a week. This is an optimal time for regular practices so you can begin to notice present moment sensations. To embed the practices further, I would recommend listening to each one at least 3 times.

Do I have to watch the videos?

The actual meditations are on audio (but appear as a video, so you do not have to watch the video). However, at the end of each Unit is a 1-3 minute video, and will be good if you can watch these.

Do I need any special equipment?

If you have a sink for washing hands and brushing teeth, a shower and a bath (one or the other is fine), a knife and means of cooking, a washing machine and space to hang clothes - and of course a device to watch and listen on, that is all you need!

Can I really squeeze it into my daily life?

The short answer is yes; the longer answer is that the meditations might take you 1 or 2 mins longer than you would normally take. This is to focus on paying attention to different senses. The sum up video at the end of each Unit is 1-3 mins long, so not a big time commitment.

Will me doing this course make me more mindful?

Yes! Even if you only listen to each of the meditations once (I would recommened listening at least 3 times though), when you go to re-perform the task, if you set yourself that intention to be more mindful in daily life and remember the cues from the meditations, you will.

How can this course relieve stress?

We tend to live so much of the day 'in our head' - and much of this is usually worrying about something that might happen, or going over something that already has happened. This helps to engage our brain with what is happening RIGHT NOW, which helps us to see when we are time travelling into the future or past...
